Admissions to School

Montgomery International School is inclusive and welcomes students from all backgrounds, nationalities and cultures. When moving to a different country, we understand that choosing the right school is the most important decision you will have to make. The admission team helps you define the best options for your children to reach their highest academic and personal potential within our institution.

Montgomery International School is an educational institution committed to providing a high-quality learning environment through the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. Located in a diverse and multicultural community, Montgomery offers its students an internationally recognised curriculum designed to develop critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and responsible global citizens. The school's mission emphasises inclusivity and holistic education, creating opportunities for students to flourish academically, socially, and personally.

From the Primary Years Program (PYP) to the Diploma Program (DP), Montgomery prepares children for the evolving demands of the modern world. With a 100% pass rate at the DP, the school stands as a testament to the effectiveness of its educational philosophy. The admission for schools process at Montgomery is designed to be inclusive and accessible, encouraging students from various academic and cultural backgrounds to apply.

At Montgomery, we believe that education is a journey of discovery, not a race to meet standardised expectations. Our open admissions policy reflects our commitment to understanding each child's unique needs and nurturing their individual potential. Parents looking to secure a place for their child at Montgomery can expect a welcoming and supportive admissions process.

The Advantages of Choosing an English School

One of the most significant benefits of choosing Montgomery International School is its bilingual curriculum, with a strong foundation in English while also offering substantial exposure to another language. In the Primary Years Program (PYP), instruction is often 50% in English and 50% in French, while in the secondary years, the bilingual program shifts to approximately 30% French and 70% English. This approach provides students with a range of academic and professional advantages, including enhanced global opportunities. Additionally, students have the option to obtain the Advanced Bilingual IB Diploma, further positioning them for success in an increasingly interconnected world.

1. Language Mastery

English is the global language of business, science, and international diplomacy. At Montgomery, our pedagogy focuses on ensuring students become fluent in English, providing them with a competitive edge in higher education and future careers. This fluency opens doors to universities across the globe, particularly in English-speaking countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

2. Global University Access

With the IB curriculum delivered primarily in English, Montgomery students are uniquely positioned to apply to prestigious universities worldwide. Additionally, students have the option to pursue the Advanced Bilingual IB Diploma, where they can study a second language—French at Montgomery—at a bilingual level, as well as take another subject, such as History, in that language. While admissions officers often seek students comfortable with academic discourse in English, Montgomery only requires a certain level of English proficiency for high school students (Grades 9 to 12). In the lower grades, there is no English proficiency requirement, allowing students to join with very little knowledge of the language and develop their fluency as they progress through the school.

3. International Recognition

The IB curriculum is widely regarded as a gold standard in international education. At Montgomery, our commitment to delivering this program in both English and through our bilingual program ensures that students graduate with qualifications recognised and respected worldwide. The bilingual program gives students even more options, allowing them to study in both English and French, broadening their academic and professional opportunities. Additionally, the multicultural environment of the school fosters a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives, preparing students for truly international careers.

4. Specialisations and Career Focus

Montgomery places a strong emphasis on developing specialised knowledge through its curriculum, particularly in business, science, math, and languages. Whether a student aims to pursue a career in international business, medicine, or engineering, English-language instruction provides the necessary tools to excel in these fields. Our graduates often find that the language skills and critical thinking abilities acquired during their time at Montgomery enable them to succeed in competitive and specialised career pathways.

Grades at Montgomery: PYP, MYP, and Diploma Programme

Montgomery International School offers a continuum of IB programs, starting from the Primary Years Program (PYP), continuing with the Middle Years Program (MYP), and culminating in the prestigious Diploma Program (DP).

1. Primary Years Program (PYP)

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Montgomery starts with PYP1 and is designed for children aged 51/2 (in September) to 11. The programme emphasises inquiry-based learning, where students actively engage with concepts through exploration and investigation. Our PYP programme prioritises the holistic development of the child, fostering a love of learning while helping students develop essential skills in communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The admission for schools process for the PYP is designed to be inclusive. Montgomery requests school records from the last two years but does not necessarily prioritize academic performance as a deciding factor. Instead, the focus is on understanding the child's individual needs and ensuring that the school can provide a supportive environment for their growth.

2. Middle Years Program (MYP)

For students aged 11 to 16, the Middle Years Program (MYP) offers a comprehensive and challenging curriculum. The MYP builds on the foundational skills developed in the PYP and encourages students to connect their learning to real-world issues. Students are assessed through project-based learning, creative assignments, and examinations, helping them develop both academic knowledge and practical skills.

The MYP at Montgomery provides students with an excellent bridge to the Diploma Program, as it encourages independent thinking, research, and analysis. Admissions into the MYP, like the PYP, are open and flexible. Montgomery welcomes students from all academic backgrounds, making accommodations for those who may need additional support.

3. Diploma Program (DP)

Montgomery's Diploma Program (DP) is designed for students aged 16 to 19, providing a rigorous, two-year pre-university course. The DP emphasises depth and breadth in six subject areas, along with the core components of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE).

Our admission for schools process into the DP reflects the school's inclusive philosophy. Despite the challenges of the programme, Montgomery does not require students to demonstrate an elite academic background. Instead, we focus on the student's willingness to engage with the curriculum and their potential to grow during the program.

Montgomery boasts a 100% pass rate in the IB Diploma Program, a remarkable achievement that highlights the school's commitment to excellence. This success is a result of personalised teaching, ongoing support, and the student-centric learning environment that defines the Montgomery experience.

Highlights of Excellence

Admissions Grade by Grade

Grades 1 to 5 / PYP 1- 5

We accept all students from the age of 51/2 (by September)  to the age of 11. In order to confirm registration, the last two report cards (if applicable) will be requested to allow us to get to know the student better.

Grades 6 to 10 / MYP 1-5

To enrol in the MYP, students must have successfully completed and acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in their previous years of study. Therefore, to confirm enrolment in the appropriate grade level, the last two report cards will be requested to allow us to better assess the student's academic level and skills. In some cases, and if the results on the report cards, interviews, etc. do not allow us to define the best choice of courses and level, the student will potentially be requested to take placement tests in Math,  English and/or French.

Grades 11 & 12 / DP 1-2

To enrol in the DP, students will be required to submit his/her report cards from the previous two years. If necessary, we will also contact the student's former school in order to obtain information on his/her academic situation, the choices to be made for his/her courses or on any special arrangements he/she might need. In addition, the student will be required to take a placement test for the mathematics course as well as in French or English, depending on his/her language profile. All of these elements will also be accounted for in the choice of subjects to be taken at the SL (Standard Level) and HL (High Level). In the event that a candidate wishes to register for DP 2 (transfer from another IB school), the programme coordinator will contact the other school to determine whether transfer is possible and under which conditions. This will determine whether the other school's Diploma Programme is in line with our own. A meeting will also be set up between the student and the university counselor of the school.

Implementation, evaluation and revision of the Admissions Policy

The admission policy is developed by the IB coordinators and the leadership team. This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure that it is up-to-date with school procedures.
